1. Yksikönpartitiivi
Why it’s difficult: This word represents the partitive singular case in Finnish, a grammatical case that doesn’t exist in many other languages. Example sentence: Kirjoitan yksikönpartitiiviin lauseen. (I am writing a sentence in the partitive singular.)
2. Välttämätön

3. Syyllistyttää
Why it’s difficult: The cluster of consonants and double letters can be hard to pronounce. Example sentence: Hän syyllistyttää minua jatkuvasti. (He keeps making me feel guilty.)
4. Epäjärjestelmällistyttämättömyydelläänsäkäänköhän
Why it’s hard: This is an extremely long compound word demonstrating the complexity of Finnish compound words and affixes. Example sentence: Voiko kukaan epäjärjestelmällistyttämättömyydelläänsäkäänköhän? (Can anyone even with their unmethodicalness?)
5. Lentokonesuihkuturbiinimoottoriapumekaanikkoaliupseerioppilas
Why it’s difficult: Another long compound word, often cited as one of the longest words in Finnish. Example sentence: Hän on lentokonesuihkuturbiinimoottoriapumekaanikkoaliupseerioppilas. (He is an airplane jet turbine engine auxiliary mechanic non-commissioned officer student.)
6. Jäätelökioskilla
Why it’s hard: The combination of vowels and consonants can be challenging to pronounce smoothly. Example sentence: Tapasin hänet jäätelökioskilla. (I met him at the ice cream kiosk.)
7. Kaksikymmentäkahdeksan
Why it’s difficult: The way numbers are constructed in Finnish can be perplexing. Example sentence: Hän on kaksikymmentäkahdeksan vuotta vanha. (He is twenty-eight years old.)
8. Ymmärtääköhän
Why it’s hard: The suffix “-kohän” is used to form a question with uncertainty, which is a unique structure. Example sentence: Ymmärtääköhän hän tätä? (I wonder if he understands this?)
9. Oikeusministeriö
Why it’s difficult: The length and complexity of the word can make pronunciation difficult. Example sentence: Oikeusministeriössä käsitellään lakiasioita. (Legal matters are dealt with in the Ministry of Justice.)
