The seven days of the week in French

  • lundi = Monday

  • mardi = Tuesday

  • mercredi = Wednesday

  • jeudi = Thursday

  • vendredi = Friday

  • samedi = Saturday

  • dimanche = Sunday

All days are masculine in French and are not capitalized unless they start a sentence.

How to say “on” a day

Use the word le before the day when talking about something happening regularly on that day.

  • le lundi = on Mondays

  • le samedi = on Saturdays

For one-time events, you can also say the day alone:

  • Je viens mardi.
    (I’m coming on Tuesday.)

Common phrases with days

  • à lundi = see you Monday

  • du lundi au vendredi = from Monday to Friday

  • ce dimanche = this Sunday

  • tous les mercredis = every Wednesday
